PROVERBS 4 - WISDOM

GET WISDOM

If the Word says to "Get Wisdom," then do you think that possibly we can deduce that Wisdom is something that we can attain.  The Lord says, “If anyone lacks Wisdom, they should ask God and He will give it to you liberally, generously.  James 1:5

Don’t turn your back on wisdom, because She will protect you.  If the Lord has given Wisdom, why, oh why would anyone turn their back on the wise things of God.  Love Wisdom and Wisdom will protect you.

Getting Wisdom is the wisest thing that we can do!  When decisions are made through the Wisdom of God, our paths will be straight.  When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble.

Guard your heart.  Walk in Wisdom.  God’s Peace be upon you.

PROVERBS 3:5-9 - JULY 3, 2018

TRUST GOD FROM THE BOTTOM OF YOUR HEART (MSG)
You can rely on God - always.  He NEVER goes back on His Word.  He is faithful in all His Ways.  Seek Him with your heart and He will show you how completely you can trust Him.

Even at your young age, there have been times when you were blessed to escape a situation that you knew should have really turned out bad for you but God's Grace and Mercy covered you.  It wasn't luck.  It wasn't a coincidence.  It was God.

DON'T TRY TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT ON YOUR OWN (MSG)

Sometimes when struggling with growing up and growing pains, life gets complicated and answers to problems seem to be simple but they are not always so obvious.  Although parents try to open the way for you to figure things out for yourself, believe me everyone needs guidance and instructions on navigating life's highways and by-ways.  Don't try to figure everything out on your own.

LISTEN FOR GOD'S VOICE IN EVERYTHING YOU DO, EVERWHERE YOU GO... (MSG)

Hear Him!  Recognize God's existence and He will show you the right thing to do and the right decision to make.  So you think that you don't hear His Voice?  Here is a sure fire way to recognize that it is His Voice that you do hear.  He will NEVER lead you into the path of evil.  He will NEVER ask you to do something that doesn't line up with His Word.  He will ALWAYS lead you to bless and not curse!  He will ALWAYS help you to forgive.

HE’S THE ONE WHO WILL KEEP YOU ON TRACK...(MSG)

He will keep you on the right path IF you are willing to follow Him.  What path?  The path of righteous...right living.  The path that leads to Him.  That path that is prosperous for your life.  The path that leads to goodness and not evil.  That path that He walks beside you on...

DON’T ASSUME THAT YOU KNOW IT ALL...(MSG)
A person can live to be 120 years of age and STILL not know it all.  For the short period of time that we live, believe me...we STILL don't know anything.   People can be very smart.  Their intellect may surpass millions but please remember that ALL knowledge and ALL wisdom comes from God.

Whatever we know, He allowed us to know it.  Whatever we do, He allowed us to accomplish it.  Whatever strength we have, He gave it to us.  So don't get beside yourself thinking that you have done this great thing and forget that it is in God that we move, live and have our being!  We just DON'T know it all!  We really aren't that smart.

Bubble burst!                              Mike dropped!

RUN TO GOD!  RUN FROM EVIL!  (MSG)

Reverence the Lord...  Respect the Lord... Abide in the Lord... Leave, get away from, make an exit from evil...  It's a decision, beloved.  The battle has always come down to a decision.  You can decide to run to God or you can decide to run to evil.  It's ALWAYS been your call.

YOUR BODY WILL GLOW WITH HEALTH, YOUR BONES WILL VIBRATE WITH LIFE!  (MSG)

Resting in the Will of God brings health and strength to every part of your life.  When spirit, soul, and body comes into God's alignment, peace comes, joy comes, love comes, all the fruit of the Spirit shows up.

HONOR GOD WITH EVERYTHING YOU OWN; GIVE HIM THE FIRST AND BEST (MSG)

Maybe you're thinking, "I'm young, I don't have anything."  Well yeah, you kind of do!  You have time.  Time is a gift He has given to you and time is a gift that you can give back to Him.  Take time to hear Him.  Take time to talk with Him.  Take time to thank Him.  Take time to read what He has to say about you.  Take time to obey your parents.  Take time to be grateful for every good and perfect gift that He has given to you.  Take a little....TIME...  It is the first and it is the best thing to honor God with...

PROVERBS 1:7 - JUNE 2018 Newsletter

PROVERBS 1:7

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

The word "fear" means to be afraid but it also means to "reverence" or respect someone or something.    It means to hold someone in high esteem or regard.

Having respect for the Lord, starts the learning process.  All things begin and end with God.  It doesn't matter how long a person lives on earth nor does it matter how much education an individual may receive, no one has the infinite mind of Father, God.  He knows the beginning from the end.  He is the first and the last of everything.  To respect the Lord is the start of education, understanding, and awareness.

Only the foolish thumb their noses at this kind of wisdom and learning.  Often those who don't reverence the Lord, don't know Him and some don't know that He exists...  It is foolish to live in this world and not try to get to know the creator of this world.

Sons and daughters, hear the wise counsel of your elders and wear their instructions like jewelry.  Knowledge begins with God...

PETER - JAILED BY MAN, FREED BY GOD!

Acts 12

King Herod got it in his head to go after some of the people in the church.  John's brother James was the first victim.  Herod loved the popularity that this brought him.

So what did he do next?  He arrested Peter!  He planned to get rid of him after Passover.

But, what King Herod didn't know was that the church was praying for Peter.

Suddenly, an angel was in the jail with Peter, flooding the cell with light.  He touched Peter on the side to wake him up and said, "Get dressed, put on your sandals and your coat and follow me."

Peter thought he was dreaming as he followed the angel out of the gates and into the streets.  Then he realized that this had actually happened to him.  He was set free by God who sent his angel to deliver Peter.

Peter went to Mary's house where they were still praying.  He knocked on the door and Rhoda answered it.

She was so excited that she left him standing in the street as she told everyone that he was the one knocking at the door.  The people didn't believe her and called her crazy.  She kept on trying to convince them and finally they said that she must be seeing an angel.  Meanwhile, Peter was still feverishly knocking at the door.

Finally they opened the door and were amazed to see him.  Peter told them everything that the Lord had done for him and then he left them and went to another place.

REMEMBER:
GOD IS STRONGER THAN ANYTHING OR ANYONE THAT COMES AGAINST HIS OWN!

WILL THE REAL BRANCHES, PLEASE STAND UP

“I am the Real Vine and My Father is the Farmer. He cuts off every branch of me that doesn’t bear grapes. And every branch that is grape-bearing He prunes back so it will bear even more. You are already pruned back by the message I have spoken.  “Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you. In the same way that a branch can’t bear grapes by itself but only by being joined to the vine, you can’t bear fruit unless you are joined with me."  John 15: 1-5) (The Message)

In this Scripture, Jesus is saying that He is the True Vine.  He is the True Son of God. This Word from Jesus shows the relationship between God and His people.  The Vine and the branch show the complete dependence and the need for a consistent connection.

Look at the picture.  God the Father was presented as the One who grew and managed the vine.  God is the Vinedresser.  The branches that were taken away were never really living and growing in the vine. When growing grapes, sometimes branches fall to the ground.  The caretaker will lift the grape branches off the ground so that they can get more sunshine.

If the branches are producing, the caretaker will lift them up and prune them or clean them or purify them so that they can produce more fruit.  If the branch seems to be decaying on the vine, then it can produce disease that can harm the entire grape vine.

Jesus said to His disciples, that they were already cleaned and beginning to be  pruned and purified some more by the Word that He was teaching them.  The Word of God is like a detergent, it gets the dirt out.  The Word removes sin and conditions us for service.

Jesus says, "Abide in Me, Live in Me."  It's impossible for a branch to bear grapes if it isn't connected to the Vine!  Now Jesus explained that even though the picture on the Temple reflected that Israel was the vine; He taught them that indeed He was the Vine and He was their direct connection to God.

The purpose of the branch is to produce fruit.  God's work in us and our connection to Him should be revealed by the fruit - much fruit and we are managed by the Vine.  Not only should we abide (live) in Him, He should be abiding (living) in us.  Without Jesus Christ we can do nothing.  We can't stand on our own; we can not produce fruit on our own; we can not live on our own without Him.

So if you are a real branch and you are living and abiding in Christ, please stand up!

OCTOBER 2017 NEWSLETTER

BAD KING - GOOD KING

Abijam ruled over Judah in the eighteenth year of Jeroboam’s reign in Israel.  He ruled in Jerusalem for three years.  His mother was the granddaughter of Prince Absalom - king David's son.

He committed the same sins as his father before him, and he was not faithful to the Lord his God, as his ancestor David had been.
There was constant war between Abijam and Jeroboam.

Asa began to rule over Judah in the twentieth year of Jeroboam’s reign in Israel. He reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years.  Asa did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight, as his ancestor David had done.  He even deposed his great-grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made an obscene Asherah pole. He cut down her obscene pole and burned it in the Kidron Valley. Asa’s heart remained completely faithful to the Lord throughout his life.

Two kings that had the same ancestors but made different decisions.  Asa was Abijam's son.  One decided not to obey the Lord and the other decided to obey the Lord.  War never left King Abijam while he ruled.  On the other hand, King Asa built cities.

We all have choices.  Just because a parent makes a bad decision does not obligate the child to make the same bad decision.  Like father like son should only apply to the fact that the child may look like the parent but behavior and bad decisions should not apply to this saying.

God gives us free will to make our own choices.  Choose life!

JUNE NEWSLETTER 2017 - JONAH

Jonah 1, 2, 3
BEDTIME BIBLE AND DEVOTIONAL

"Go to Nineveh," God told a man named Jonah  "Tell them to stoop their evil ways."  Jonah got up, but he din't go to Nineveh.  He didn't like the people of that city, so he ran away.

Unlocking the Bible - kids2.jpg

Jonah went to the seashore.  He got on a ship going the opposite direction from Nineveh.  God saw what Jonah was doing.

God always sees what we are doing.  He wants us to make good choices.

Jonah sailed away on the ship.  When the ship was at sea, God sent a big storm.  Waves pounded the ship.  The sailors were very frightened of the storm.

The captain went down into the bottom of the ship and found Jonah sleeping.  "Get up and pray to your God too,"  he said.  "Maybe your God will save us."

The captain and everyone prayed.  They knew they needed help from somebody bigger than themselves.

"Somebody has done something to cause this storm.  Let's find out who it is," the sailors said.  They decided the storm was Jonah's fault.  "Your're right.  I ran away from God," Jonah told them.  "Throw me into the sea.  Then it will calm down.

So the sailors tossed Jonah overboard.  As soon as Jonah was in the water, the sea became calm.

You might think that would be the end of Jonah but it wasn't.

Down, down into the swirling water went Jonah.  Then gulp!  Something swallowed him.  Jonah was in the stomach of a big fish.  God left him there to learn something import.  It took three days and three nights.

Then Jonah prayed to God for help.  He decided to do what God had told him to do.

It took a while for Jonah to catch on that he needed to obey God.  Now, how was he going to get out of that fish?

Jonah 2:10-3:10
God had a plan.  He spoke to that fish.  It swam up close to the beach and spit Jonah out of its stomach onto dry land.
Right away God said to Jonah, "Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh.  Say what I tell you to say."  This time Jonah didn't argue.  He obeyed.  He jumped up and went straight to Nineveh.
Every time we disobey, we get in trouble.  What would be a better choice?
